About Psyched 4 Justice

We envision a world in which safety, justice and empowerment are lived realities for people who are being marginalised as a result of colonisation, western industrialisation and identity-based discrimination. We work towards a world in which conditions like poverty, racism and market-driven politics are addressed in psychology and education, and any misuse of power is met with resistance by those of us who stand to benefit the most from it. We are a group of psychologists and cultural consultants with backgrounds in educational and developmental psychology, community development and trauma-informed practice. We are passionate about applying principles of critical psychology and the social determinants of health model to our work with young people, families and communities, and organisations and systems. We know that psychologists have become good at pulling drowning people out of the river (so to speak), but as a profession we aren’t great at asking and addressing why there are so many people drowning. Psyched 4 Justice works with others to address this bigger picture. We aim to support more psychologists to reflect and act on the social and political issues that affect the psychological wellbeing of their clients and communities. We offer training and consultation to psychology, education and other helping professionals that strengthen and broaden the support offered to children and young people who face individual and systemic forms of violence and harm. We are co-located in Naarm (Melbourne) and Rubibi (Broome). We travel to urban, rural and remote communities across what we now call Australia. Recent partnerships include Victorian Assessment Services, Australian Childhood Foundation, Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services, Early Childhood Supports, and Froebel Early Learning, and speaking engagements at the Trauma-Aware Schooling conference (Brisbane), 2nd National Indigenous Empowerment summit (Darwin), 5th National Child Protection forum (Perth).
