Public Safety Technology

The public safety technology portfolio covers five major programmes on which the Home Office is leading. Together, they will transform all the critical national systems used by law enforcement and other public safety agencies, including mobile communications (Emergency Services Mobile Communications Programme, ESMCP, delivering the Emergency Services Network, ESN), fingerprint, DNA and facial recognition (Home Office Biometrics, HOB), police information and intelligence (National Law Enforcement Data Programme, NLEDP), Automatic Number Plate Recognition (NAS) and tackling child abuse images (Child Abuse Image Database CAID). Together these programmes will deliver significant operational improvements, new functionality, major cost savings and flexibility for dealing with changing threats.
