About Postal Union for the Mediterranean (PUMed)

The Postal Union for the Mediterranean (PUMed) was established in Rome, on the 15th March 2011, by 14 Postal Operators across the Mediterranean Region under the Universal Postal Union (UPU) umbrella. Today, PUMed counts up to 23 members. It is mainly composed of designated operators which are members of two Restricted Unions: Arab Permanent Postal Commission: (Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Syrian Arab Republic & Tunisia); PostEurop: (Albania, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Croatia, Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, and Turkey). The governing bodies of the PUMed are the General Meetings and the Board of Directors Meetings. On the 12th of March 2012, the UPU announced PUMed as a Restricted Union within the meaning of article 8 of the UPU Constitution. Postal operators are recognized for their well-known and trusted brands, the Mission of PUMed is to leverage this strength, to develop, promote and protect the collective interests of the member countries whilst increasing their revenues and improving the quality of services provided. In a Region in which the economies and societies - with a joint population of 500m, and 12% of the World GDP - are intertwined and face common challenges and opportunities, PUMed represents an important means of supporting and promoting forms of partnership between Mediterranean countries in the logistics, technology and financial sector. PUMed is thus organized in four different Committees that work to develop the activities/projects of the Union, as determined by the Board and approved by the General Assembly. The Strategic Plan of the Union revolves around these four pillars: 1) Enhancing communication 2) Promoting financial inclusion 3) Stimulating trade 4) Sharing Resources
