With its origins in Japanese Judo/Kano Jiu-Jitsu, BJJ emphasizes the use of leverage and technique to allow a smaller, weaker person to successfully defend against a larger, stronger opponent. Practitioners aim to take the fight to the ground using joint locks and chokeholds to defeat or force their opponent to "tap out."
