Opened in 1993, the Hospital is a major acute hospital providing a full range of specialist services to residents of the eastern district of Hong Kong Island. It was named after Lady Youde, the wife of Sir Edward Youde, and its predecessor was Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital, which was founded over 100 years ago as the first hospital in Hong Kong to offer services based on Western medical principles to the local Chinese community.
