It was named after Lady Youde, the wife of Sir Edward Youde, and its predecessor was Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital, which was founded over 100 years ago as the first hospital in Hong Kong to offer services based on Western medical principles to the local Chinese community.
