About Quality Improvement Organization Program: Strategic Innovation Engine

The Strategic Innovation Engine (SIE) helps spread innovative practices in healthcare quality. The SIE is part of CMS’ Quality Improvement Organization program that seeks to identify, evaluate and spread innovative, evidenced-based healthcare quality practices. Its goal is to advance CMS’ three part aim – better health care, better health and smarter spending- throughout the health care community. Visit our website http://sie.qioprogram.org/ to learn more and register for updates. Guided by an Executive Leadership Council (ELC), a panel of nationally-known quality improvement thought leaders, the SIE issues periodic Calls for Innovative Practices for new or adapted practices in high impact topics that will improve health care quality. Our current Call topics are: - Managing multiple chronic conditions - Engaging patients and families as active members of the care team - Coordinating care within and across settings - Streamlining patient flow - Integrating behavioral health into care Health care organizations can submit an online application in any of the topics through July 22, 2016. Applications will be evaluated by an Expert panel against established criteria. Selected innovative practices will be combined, by topic, into Quality Improvement Innovation Packages (QIIPs) and disseminated widely to health care organizations in multiple settings. More information on this process is available through an archived webinar on the website. Selected applicants will receive public recognition for their work, unique networking opportunities, participation in presentation or poster sessions at CMS’ quality conference, rapid dissemination of their practice, promotion throughout the broad health care community, and a branded web badge acknowledging its selection as an SIE-approved practice to be featured on their website.
