Established in 2003 by Lonsdale O’Donovan, Quantum Colours has expanded internationally with representation in Germany and Canada. The company manufactures, markets and distributes under licence from Spectratec, a Canadian business.
Being passionate about colour, Quantum Colours are successfully and widely used though out the pharmaceutical industry, offering a range of tablet coatings in both sugar and film coatings, and also supplying most of the market equivalents of tablet coatings based on PVA, HPMC and Metacrylic acid co-polymers. With exceptional results using the PHARMASPEC ™ FC system, Quantum Colours take film coating to the next level of effectiveness both from a cost and a quality point of view
Quantum Colours are the exclusive distributor of Geotech International in South Africa, to market and sell its effect pigments to manufacturers in the cosmetics, coatings and plastics industries.
While Quantum Colours primarily supplies synthetic colours to the food industry, we have also recognised the value in offering a wider selection of solutions to our customer base. Realising the advantages in making the change to natural colours, and managing this change, is often a challenge.
Globally, manufacturers of food are looking more at natural colours as possible alternatives to synthetic colours. The demand for natural colours has increased with consumers becoming more conscious about additives and requiring products to be natural as possible. Some natural colours are extracts and can therefore be labelled without E numbers – making them “perfect additives”. Even better, some natural colours allow for health claims – for instance, antioxidant properties.
