About RADAR EU PROJECT
Fossil-based aromatic compounds are crucial chemical building blocks. Unfortunately, some of these chemicals, such as phenols and bisphenol A (BPA), are known to be harmful to both human health and the environment. Therefore, these structures are recognized as Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) by the European Chemicals Agency. The RADAR project will develop new value chains towards safe and sustainable aromatics for surfactants, flame retardants, and can coatings. To achieve this goal, RADAR will follow the European Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) approach, focusing on molecular, process, and product design while ensuring safety and sustainability through an extensive hazard and advanced sustainability assessment. To allow safety and sustainability assessments at early development stage. RADAR will gather toxicity data on bio-based aromatic templates using high-throughput New Approach Methods (NAMs). This data will enable the development of a machine learning model that can be used to (re)design novel safer alternatives or conduct in-silico toxicity evaluations. The project also includes an advanced sustainability assessment, where standard life cycle assessments are supported by novel methodologies to fill data gaps. The RADAR consortium comprises 18 partners, including relevant industrial actors along the value chain, supported by excellent knowledge institutions: KUL • UdS • RUG • DTU • BfR • Uni-Graz • USJ • Apeiron • Sciensano • Syensqo • ICL • GECCO • Allnex • Particula Group • P&G • Normec OWS• ABInbev • UPM 📣 Follow us on LinkedIn and visit our website: radar-project.eu. ✉️ Contact us via info@radar-project.eu This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon programme under grant agreement number 101178148.
