RAMS is the acronym for Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety. The RAMS group is an inter-disciplinary research group within the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, at the Engineering Faculty of NTNU. We primarily pursue basic and applied research in the fields of:
• Reliability assessment of barriers and safety systems
• Employment of reliability analysis techniques and methods in development of new systems (i.e., ‘systems engineering’ approach)
• Risk assessment of complex systems, and
• Risk-based maintenance planning and management, including condition-based maintenance and prognostics.
Moreover, we offer education at the Master’s level in all of the above areas, as well as courses in programming and in project risk management.
Our group members have various scientific backgrounds, such as in mechanical engineering, systems engineering, chemical engineering, cybernetics, statistics, management and computer science. Common ground for us all is that we complement this foundation with theories and methodologies in the area of risk, reliability, and maintenance modelling and analysis.
RAMS group is quite international, involving members with notable careers in both research and industry. Our group is therefore characterised by a particular dynamism due to its solid academic background coupled with its close industry ties and experience.
