Rastech Research CIC is a unique sustainable aquaculture SME based in Scotland. We are re-thinking Recirculation Aquaculture Systems (RAS) design to deliver sustainably produced, clean, high-quality, and affordable food fish nutrition through transformative aquaculture science & technology. RASTECH develops profitable RAS solutions, based on good science, that give producers a social license to operate. The global demand for food fish nutrition will almost double to at least 220 million tons by 2050. With wild fisheries already under great stress, aquaculture must produce up to 20% more output in the same timeframe – but we must significantly mitigate production-related damage at the same time. RASTECH’s circular economy and data-driven methodology provides many opportunities to achieve this through reducing water usage, enhancing biosecurity, better waste management, end-to-end product traceability and skilled jobs. We see onshore fish farming as low carbon farm diversification and a provider of good quality employment within rural communities.
