When visiting with a very well known (and yet "newer") infrastructure fund, a principal there was kind enough to tell me circumstances by which one of the most respected top-drawer m&a shops was engaged to manage a sell-side process for a large portfolio of comms infrastructure. An engineer by trade, he had been "looking" to make a splash for a fair amount of time (almost two years in fact) and both the seller and the buyer agreed - not to the terms initially - but to bring a banker in to "keep everyone honest". I believe that is one of the greatest compliments a client or colleague can bestow on anyone in our profession.
