The idea behind the bike: to turn plastic waste into a valuable resource. And set in motion a circular economy that gives old plastic a second life. And a third. Over 92% of the RCYL bike is made from high performance plastic, half of which is already recycled. We give discarded fishing nets a new life in the city.
The idea for the bike came from igus CEO Frank Blase, with Dutch start-up mtrl as a partner. Originally launched under the project name igus:bike, the brand was renamed RCYL in 2024 for the start of the first small series production.
RCYL stands for innovation. Apart from the saddle and brakes, nothing is off the shelf. Everything is developed, rethought and tested in our own test laboratory as well as in independent, recognized test laboratories. Safe is safe.
