The Real People group was established in 2001 with its main areas of business being the acquisition and collection of non-performing consumer debt as well as the provision of unsecured credit to consumers.
The Group diversified into the provision of assurance products as well as the provision and financing of education products.
Over time, the Group’s lending strategy evolved to move away from lending for consumption purposes to lending only for economically productive purposes which benefit the consumer and society such as housing finance, education finance and small development business finance - what we like to refer to as “Responsible Finance”.
Today the main businesses of the Group comprise of:
• The acquisition and collection of non-performing debt in South Africa
• The provision of home build and home improvement finance in South Africa and East Africa
• The provision of small business development finance in South Africa and East Africa
The Group also operates a life assurance license through which additional value is delivered to the Group’s customers in South Africa.
