RECREATE (Reliability and Effectiveness of Integrated Alternative Water Resources Management for Regional Climate Change Adaptation) is a Horizon Europe Innovation Action project focused on boosting climate resilience through smarter, more sustainable water use. Across Europe, many regions are facing increasing water stress due to climate change, growing demand and seasonal pressures. RECREATE supports local and regional actors in integrating Alternative Water Resources (AWR), such as reclaimed water, desalinated water and rainwater harvesting, into water planning and management. Through a combination of cutting-edge research, stakeholder engagement, digital tools and real-world demonstrations, the project develops actionable strategies to improve the reliability, efficiency and safety of water systems. Key focus areas: - Climate-resilient water planning - Potable and non-potable water reuse - Decision-making under uncertainty - Public engagement and trust in AWR - Circular and adaptive infrastructure Where we work: Four case studies across Europe - Costa Brava (Spain), Syros (Greece), North Holland (The Netherlands) and Kalundborg (Denmark) - provide diverse testing grounds for innovative, scalable solutions.
