Focusing on Skills Development we have years of experience in training unemployed youth to become Baristas. We believe the reason our Barista’s do well in the work place is because we don’t only focus on coffee. We lay a solid foundation, first by breaking a poverty mindset and addressing entitlement. This results in new the employee understanding how to be valuable to the employer, starting with arriving on time and having a good attitude. We then add the skill of coffee excellence. Our success has been evident in the number of major coffee brands who employ our Barista’s. Founded in 2014 we have had over 1000 people come through Skills Development centre with over 250 of them graduating from the Red Band Barista Academy. We currently have 6 Red Band Academies in 5 cities in South Africa and 1 Academy in Uganda. Our network of trainers and academies spreads throughout South Africa. We have also trained many Barista’s in store, helping them to improve their coffee excellence. Red Band Academy has been nominated for various awards inducing best educational training program in coffee. Our trainers are wellknown on the coffee circuit with one of our guest trainers having represented South Africa at the world latte art championships. Red Band Coffee Bars (PTY) Level 1 BBBE - 100% owned by Red Band Academy Focusing on Enterprise Development and Procurement, we have opened 10 Red Band Coffee Bars in the last year along the garden route. This project empowers Red Band Baristas to become a small business owner in a controlled environment. We launched our first Red Band Coffee Bar in 2018 at Nelson Mandela University (NMU). A fully equipped Coffee Bar was made available to a Barista. This bar forms part of the Red Band Barista Franchise, selling coffee beverages to the public. Each bar only requires a single Barista to run it. A Barista is taken on a journey from Barista to Manager to Profit Share Holder to Business Owner.
