RED WoLF (Rethink Electricity Distribution Without Load Following)

The RED WoLF project (Rethink Electricity Distribution Without Load Following) brings together 16 Partner Institutions from the UK, France, Ireland, Belgium & Luxembourg. Universities, housing associations, local authorities as well as training and other non-profit organisations across North-West Europe tackle energy bills and housing emissions, responsible for approximately 300 million tonnes of CO2/year, and energy bills. 43 houses in UK and France have been fitted with AI-driven hybrid storage systems merging batteries, storage heaters, DHW cylinders and PV. Thermal storage and batteries combine rooftop PV output with low-carbon energy from the grid. The managing AI algorithm automatically makes decisions on the best storage times based on local energy usage, the price of electricity, weather forecasts and the grid's current CO2 intensity.
