RedTail LiDAR Systems

RedTail LiDAR Systems has become an industry leader in the development of long-range MEMS mirror LiDAR sensor design and integration, having performed LiDAR development projects for the U.S. Army, Navy, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Department of Agriculture and Department of Homeland Security. The RTL-450 is the system of choice for military and government customers. The underlying microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) mirror technology used in the RTL-450 was designed and developed by the Army Research Laboratory, Adelphi, MD. Systems have been operationally deployed within DoD as a 3D tactical imaging system. The RTL-450 system offers 200 line scans per second, a pulse repetition rate of 400,000 pulses per second, and an optimized scan angle of 40 degrees. The RedTail LiDAR system provides two scan modes, a line scan mode and a raster scan mode for stand and stare missions, offering unmatched operational flexibility. The RTL-450 LiDAR system is a fully integrated payload on the Teledyne FLIR R80D SkyRaider, a DoD Program of Record sUAS – and both the FreeFly Alta X and the Inspired Flight IF1200 which are both certified as DoD Blue UAS 2.0 sUAS. As other sUAS are approved by the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU), RedTail LiDAR will provide a fully integrated LiDAR payload on those platforms. RedTail LiDAR Systems launched in 2019 and has quickly been established as a leader in the UAV LiDAR industry. RedTail’s team is comprised of highly-skilled scientists, engineers, and technicians with expertise in circuit board design and fabrication, optics design and integration, packaging for adverse environments, and software development. RedTail’s UAV flight team has performed thousands of UAV flights in rugged and challenging locations. The RedTail LiDAR team works closely with customers to design and implement UAV-specific platform and sensor solutions to meet their particular data collection needs.
