REFUGYM facilitates exercises classes with and for the residents of a refugee camp in Attica, Greece. Promoting community led sports, REFUGYM supports the asylum seeking community to address their physical and mental health needs through movement and exercise.
REFUGYM was founded in 2018, in response to the unaddressed physical and mental health needs of people seeking asylum in Greece. We run exercise classes within a refugee camp located North of Athens.
REFUGYM is by refugees, for refugees. We encourage the community to use their skills, passion and knowledge of sports to help their community. One of the top priorities of REFUGYM was to make its programming sustainable; moving away from a reliance on international volunteers and instead empowering camp residents to use their skills and knowledge to help lead the community.
We continuously welcome new people from the refugee community to use their passion and expertise in sports activities to lead REFUGYM programming.
