Register Our Marriage (ROM) by Aina Khan OBE

Register Our Marriage (ROM) is a campaign launched by international family lawyer, Aina Khan OBE in 2014. We run nationwide training, free legal surgeries and provide online resources. We also act as consultants to international groups who value our experience in tackling this growing issue. Our aims are: 1. to raise awareness that couples are not legally protected in unregistered religious marriages, and 2. Lobby for reform of the 1949 Marriage Act which only covers Church of England, Jews and Quakers and leaves other faiths unprotected unless they volunteer to register marriages. We are a dedicated group of people from round the world - comprising of lawyers, academics, parliamentarians, women’s groups, faith leaders and influencers all working together in harmony. Aina Khan has taken care to collect together a truly diverse cross-section of society, both men and women, young and old, religious and secular, of all political hues.
