The Rekhta Foundation, a not-for-profit organization, has been steadfast in its mission to preserve and promote Indian languages since 2012. With the digitization of over 285,000 books and the curation of 6 digital archives— rekhta.org (https://rekhta.org/), hindwi.org (https://hindwi.org/), anjas.org (https://anjas.org/), sufinama.org (https://sufinama.org/), punjabi (in the works), and rekhtagujarati.org (https://rekhtagujarati.org/)—we are dedicated to making literature easily accessible to all.
Every year, the Foundation hosts Jashn-e-Rekhta, the world’s biggest Urdu festival. For three consecutive days, it brings together artists, literati and poetry enthusiasts, filmmakers, and critics from all over the world to celebrate the language of love.
The festival was birthed to promote Urdu literature and bring spotlight on age-old artforms like Sufi music, Ghazals, Dastangoi, Mushaira and more. After its continuous success in India, Jashn e Rekhta has now expanded to the UK and UAE.
The Foundation’s work also includes curating two multilingual dictionaries, Rekhta Dictionary and Hindwi Dictionary, campus connect programs to engage the youth, Rekhta Learning (https://rekhtalearning.com), an online edtech platform with courses to learn Urdu, Rekhta Labs to research and develop helpful tools for aspiring poets, and Rekhta Studio to generate high-quality content, featuring celebrated authors and poets.
Apart from this, the Foundation’s most notable work is in building a digital library, Rekhta E books, of 287,762+ books with 5000+ books being digitized every month.
Rekhta Publications, Rekhta Productions, Rekhta Podcast, Shaam e Rekhta, and Rang e Rekhta are other initiatives to expand reach to smaller cities and a bigger audience pool.
