Relithia Energy is a pioneering startup committed to promoting sustainability in Africa by revolutionizing the recycling of lithium-ion batteries. Based in Nigeria and Zimbabwe, we aim to make a significant impact both locally and globally. We use an innovative recycling process that combines hydrometallurgy and low-temperature pyrometallurgy, efficiently recovering valuable materials such as lithium, cobalt, and nickel from end-of-life mobile phone and laptop batteries. This method reduces energy consumption and emissions, making it a greener alternative to traditional high-temperature recycling. Our focus on tackling electronic waste prevents hazardous materials from contaminating landfills and ecosystems. By reintroducing these recovered materials into the supply chain, we contribute to a circular economy and conserve natural resources. Our hybrid recycling approach also minimizes wastewater production, crucial in regions facing water scarcity. We source spent batteries locally, reducing transportation-related environmental impacts and supporting local economies. This approach lowers our carbon footprint and creates jobs, promoting sustainable practices within the community. Additionally, we close the loop in the lifecycle of lithium-ion batteries by manufacturing new prismatic cells from recycled materials, ensuring a sustainable supply for the energy, electronics, and electric vehicle industries.
