Renewable Energy Northeast Universities (ReNU) and Renewable Energy Northeast Universities Plus (ReNU+) are two centres doctoral training (CDTs) funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, and delivered by Northumbria, Durham and Newcastle Universities.
ReNU was formed in 2019 to train the next-generation of doctoral graduates with the skills required to drive UK innovation in renewable energy and has 5 cohorts of doctoral students. The EPSRC CDT in ReNU+ (“ReNU Plus”) is a new £5.3M grant award in 2024 to further develop ReNU and train 52 doctoral carbon champions, with a focus on widening access to doctoral level training to people with non-traditional educational backgrounds and reaching under-represented groups. Cohort 6 will start their PhD with us on 1st October 2025.
