REPTiS

REPTiS is an EU funded project for a sustainable and energy efficient solution for responsible extraction and processing of Titanium together with other Primary Raw Materials. These raw materials will be extracted in the strategic partner country Ukraine with sustainable processes, and transformed into metal powders, and other useful by-products, to supply EU industrial value chains and strategic sectors with titanium alloy powders with a net zero-waste approach. The REPTiS consortium comprises 11 partners from 7 EU/EEA countries (Belgium, France, Germany, Poland, Spain, Sweden and Austria) and 2 partners from strategic partner country Ukraine, covering the entire value chain of Titanium. The Velta Ti Process originally invented and patented by one of the Consortium partners eliminates the disadvantages of current processes to achieve advantages in the following areas: • Significant reduction in the cost of finished products; • Avoidance of solid and liquid waste generation; • Significant reduction of the carbon footprint; • Improved particle size control of finished powders; • Improved homogeneity of alloying additives distribution in alloys. The project will build on the existing knowledge to further improve sustainability performance and to achieve the following expected results: • A holistic solution to Titanium powder production and supply by the achievement of objectives in Ilmenite mining and extraction together with the application of environmentally friendly Velta Ti process with zero waste to replace the energy dense and highly carbonized Kroll+EIGA process • Demonstration of the project results through versatile real life uses cases to raise awareness for market acceptance of the new powders • Set of specific data for LCA reporting of Titanium, especially in powder form • Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) study on four case studies to evaluate the environmental performance of the developed technologies
