Research focuses on the electrical behaviour of polymer insulating materials, the behaviour of external and internal interfaces, their test and measurement methods and technical diagnostics. The department is represented in various working groups at CIGRE, IEC and DKE.
Materials and their properties form the basis of electrical insulation systems in various applications, such as electrical power engineering (AC and DC voltage systems and their stress), automation technology and regenerative generation (converter operation and stress due to a high number of pulses with a short rise time) or also in the semiconductor industry and automotive industry. In addition, requirements for size, weight and cost optimisation must be taken into account and incorporated. The wide range of applications also shows the different requirements for the materials, which must be characterised and qualified for use.
Various laboratories and special measuring equipment are available to the department for the successful development of these questions.
