Pakistan generates approximately 20 million tons of Solid Waste per year, while generation varies between 0.283 to 0.612 kg/capita/day with a growth rate of 2.4% per year.2 Approximately 8700 Tons/ Day of solid waste is generated in major metropolitan cities of Pakistan. Lahore generates 7510 tons per day1 out of which 27% is recycled through the informal sector while the rest is sent to landfills located at Mehmood Boti & Lakhodhair. Lack of waste sorting at source, recycling, reuse, reduction strategies and absence of awareness regarding environmental impact of Solid Waste Dumping has resulted in expansion of the growing “Wasteberg”, hidden from sight continuously growing bigger nearing its point of saturation.
