Restaurant 1840
A fine dining restaurant inside a restored Methodist church in Telford, Shropshire. Originally left derelict for a decade, the building was brought back to life in 2016 with care and reverence — church pews became tables, custom stained glass mirrors the original designs, and the pulpit now welcomes guests in reception.
At 1840, we offer an experience that’s elegant, honest, and full of character. No pretension. Just carefully crafted food using local ingredients, seasonal produce, and organic herbs and vegetables grown by our head chef herself.
We run a number of unique events throughout the year:
• The Second Cut – A £35 tasting menu series celebrating overlooked ingredients and real chef skill.
• 1840 Commons – A free-use platform for local artists, makers, and community groups.
• Jelly’s Jungle – Our annual Halloween event: mystery menus, bold flavours, and a touch of madness.
Whether you join us for dinner, a private hire, or a pop-up, we aim to make the experience unforgettable — and entirely our own.
