GOOSE: Germanium Orbital Optical Semiconductor Experiment
We are a team of students from the Technical University of Munich, participating in the REXUS/BEXUS program, which offers students the chance to carry out experiments in near-space conditions. Our project, GOOSE (Germanium Orbital Optical Semiconductor Experiment for Marangoni Compensation), focuses on improving semiconductor crystal growth in microgravity by addressing the challenge of Marangoni convection. This phenomenon impacts the float zone method used in crystal growth, leading to uneven material distribution and affecting semiconductor quality.
Through GOOSE, we aim to develop a solution to counteract Marangoni convection, resulting in more uniform and higher-quality crystal structures. This research has the potential to advance semiconductor manufacturing and unlock new opportunities for space-based technologies.
