Religions for Peace, the world's largest multi-religious organization, advances collective action for peace. Religions for Peace mobilizes religious communities locally, nationally, regionally and globally to cooperate as key actors for peace. Multi-religious cooperation is more powerful than the efforts of individual faith communities acting alone. When religious communities recognize their shared values, mobilize their collective assets, and work together, they can have a decisive impact where it is most needed. The 9th World Assembly of Religions for Peace brings together over 600 religious leaders representing all historic faith traditions and every region of the world in Vienna, Austria from November 20 to 22.. Delegates from the Religions for Peace network of nighty national inter-religious councils and groups, five regional councils, one world council and global networks of religious women and religious youth. Since 1970, Religions for Peace World Assemblies have discerned both positive elements of Peace and common threats to Peace, a multi-religious consensus expressed through shared values. The 9th World Assembly of Religions for Peace calls attention to a new threat to Peace--rising hostility toward the 'other.' A multi-religious vision of Peace calls on all people of faith to 'welcome the other.' Each of our diverse faith traditions calls for profound active solidarity with the 'other', a deeply held and widely shared value among our religious communities. Hostility toward the 'other', in society and within and among religious communities, takes the form of intolerance, and too often violence, which are obstacles to peace. Religious communities can 'welcome the other' by advancing human dignity, shared well-being, and a more robust notion of citizenship.
