The SBMU Research Center for Gastroenterology and Liver Diseases, known as one of the medical science research centers of excellence in Iran, was established in 1999. This research center has been equipped with all of the required facilities and services to research gastrointestinal and liver diseases from the molecular to the epidemiological aspects. This center has focused its attention and efforts on novel aspects of medical research, particularly molecular medicine. Moreover, remarkable activities in terms of education and treatment have been carried out to attract and develop national and international collaborations, which promise a new perspective on the horizon of medical research in Iran.
During years considering its status, it has tried daily to improve its place in research on clinical, basic, and molecular sciences considering the area of gastrointestinal and liver diseases. Of these centers in the past decade are various scientific and international connections, conducting necessary research, educating experts in research, using young researchers, and creating advanced specific labs for basic researches. Research plans of the institute have been in a way that establishing two other research instates meaning the research center for food and water-borne diseases and the research center for gastrointestinal system diseases basic sciences and epidemiology has been the results of spreading scientific researches and coordination with the country’s scientific improvement in the past years.
