Riksantikvaren er eit direktorat underlagt Klima- og miljødepartementet. Vi har ansvar for forvalting av kulturminne, kulturmiljø og kulturhistoriske landskap i Noreg. Riksantikvaren er del av miljøforvaltinga og departementet sin rådgivar i alle saker som gjeld kulturmiljø. Riksantikvaren vart oppretta i 1912 og er den overordna kulturmiljøstyresmakta og har ansvar for å setje i verk den nasjonale kulturmiljøpolitikken. Vi har eit fagleg ansvar overfor kommunane, fylkeskommunane, Sametinget, Sysselmeisteren på Svalbard og forvaltingsmusea på feltet.

The Directorate for Cultural Heritage (Riksantikvaren) is a directorate under the Ministry of Climate and Environment. We are responsible for the management of cultural heritage, cultural environments, and cultural-historical landscapes in Norway. The Directorate for Cultural Heritage is part of the environmental administration and serves as the ministry's advisor on all matters related to cultural environments. Riksantikvaren was established in 1912 and is the overarching authority for cultural environments, with responsibility for implementing the national cultural heritage policy. We have professional responsibilities towards municipalities, county authorities, the Sámi Parliament, the Governor of Svalbard, and museums managing cultural heritage in the field.
