About Regional Institute for Population Studies (RIPS) - University of Ghana
Established in 1972 jointly by the Government of Ghana and the United Nations, the Regional Institute for Population Studies (RIPS), was fully integrated as a fully functional unit of the University of Ghana in 1999. With an original mandate to train demographers for Anglophone Africa, RIPS has broadened its scope and reach to training population scientist across Africa. In addition to its formal training of graduate students (MA, MPhil & PhD), faculty members at RIPS conduct research in the areas of population, public health, migration studies, reproductive health, gender dynamics, demographic evaluation of social and economic interventions, climate-environment relationship, among others. Since its founding, the Institute has trained over 1,500 demographers across Anglophone Africa and has conducted multi-disciplinary that has helped to shape its graduate training and influenced policy. RIPS is known in Africa as an institute of excellence in population training and research. RIPS collaborates with national and international entities, governmental bodies, and academic institutions to advance its mission. Its contributions, spanning research and have significantly influenced population policies and programs, locally and internationally.
