The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority, commonly known as RIPTA, is a quasi-public, independent authority. Established in 1966, RIPTA is authorized to operate public transit services throughout the State of Rhode Island. RIPTA provides transit and paratransit services 36 of 39 Rhode Island communities, operating 7 days a week. RIPTA is one of the few transit agencies nationwide who did not cut service during the COVID-19 pandemic.
