Painstakingly handcrafted by select artisans and communities, Indian handicrafts hold religious significance, some political craftivism and some cultural heritage. Many artisans and weavers use natural, even entirely indigenous materials while many make use of ecofriendly techniques and sustainable practices. However, with the onslaught of fast-paced mass scale production methods and synthetic, in-expensive alternatives, traditional arts and handicrafts nationwide are threatened by extinction. Riti aims at reviving these age-old artforms through contemporary functional designs for the global market while ensuring sustainable livelihoods for the craftsmen.
