Established in 1941, the University of North Texas' Risk Management and Insurance (RMI) program has been a leader in the education field in North Texas for over 70 years. The BBA in RMI degree offers a comprehensive risk management and insurance curriculum, preparing its students for a variety of career possibilities. In addition to an RMI major, students also have the option of obtaining a minor or a certificate. UNT’s RMI program is recognized as a Global Center of Insurance Excellence by the International Insurance Society. As of today, UNT is the only university in Texas with this award.
The program is also home to the Beta Zeta chapter of Gamma Iota Sigma (GIS), the thriving and dynamic student insurance fraternity. The purpose of this fraternity is to promote, encourage, and sustain student interest in insurance, risk management, and actuarial science. UNT's GIS chapter has received the Distinguished Chapter Recognition award on multiple years, placing it among the top ten out of over 100 other national chapters.
