The Barberton Project is situated in the South African province of Mpumalanga, around 20 kilometers from Barberton and 30 kilometers from Nelspruit. Situated in the Barberton Greenstone Belt's historic "first gold rush" region, it lies adjacent to the Noord Kaap River.
Alluvial ore will be mined as part of the project adjacent to the Noord Kaap River and one of its tributaries. The region boasts an abundance of minerals, and over millions of years, the alluvial deposit formed by the many quartz reefs in the vicinity has worn away. Although gold is the most valuable mineral in the region, there are also trace amounts of silver and other rare minerals like rhodium and palladium that are worth significantly more than gold.
