ROCKCHAR is a science project to explore the potential of combining mineral weathering and biochar for carbon dioxide removal (CDR). To create a "doped" biochar industrial side products such as returned concrete, steelslag or rock dust will be pyrolysed together with biomass. The project will clarify if carbon dioxide removal through mineral weathering, biomass stabilisation and soil improvement will be realised by the specific materials and if the use of industrial side products can provide benefits for the properties of biochar, for the CDR potential and economic feasibility.
This project is funded by the Klaus Tschira Booster Fund.
