Co-founded in October 29th, 2022 by Dr. Seong-chang Cheong (Director of the Center for Korean Peninsula Strategy) of Sejong Institute with several experts, the ROK Forum for Nuclear Strategy (ROKFNS, 한국핵안보전략포럼) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan research organization specialized in South Korea’s future nuclear deterrence strategy.
The forum is composed of members including Northeast Asian security experts, professors, nuclear engineers, advisors, North Korean defectors, former diplomats, politicians, aspiring young professionals, junior and senior researchers, defense analysts, undergraduates and graduates.
The yearly membership is open to a selected number of people from various background in order to promote active discussions and exchanges for the forum’s fields of interests such as proliferation, nuclear strategy, deterrence, ROK-U.S. alliance, military technology, etc. For more information, please contact via rokfns@gmail.com.

1. 북한의 핵과 미사일 능력의 급속한 고도화로 인해 한국 국민들의 안보 불안감이 갈수록 커지고 있고, 남북한 간의 세력 불균형으로 인해 한반도 정세가 계속 불안정해지고 있으며, 북미관계도 계속 악화되고 있는 상황에서 한국의 독자적 핵무장을 통해 한국 국민들의 안보 불안감을 해소하고, 남북 핵균형을 통해 한반도 정세를 안정시키며, 한반도 문제를 한반도화함으로써 북미 적대관계를 완화하고 동북아 및 세계평화에 기여
2. 포럼을 통해 한국의 독자적 핵무장에 대해 국제사회가 수용할 수 있는 합리적이고 정교한 논리들을 개발하고, 핵무장 과정 및 이후 남북한 간의 핵균형 및 핵군축과 남북관계 발전으로 나아가기 위한 정책 방향들을 제시
3. 한국의 핵자강에 대한 우려와 부정적인 논리들을 극복하고 설득할 수 있는 체계적이고 정교한 논리 제시
4. 핵자강을 통해 외교와 안보 분야에서 한국의 자율성을 더욱 확대하고, 한미동맹을 한국과 미국이 책임을 균형있게 분담하는 보다 건강한 동맹으로 발전시키는데 기여
5. 한국의 외교안보와 한미동맹을 업그레이드시킬 핵자강 옵션에 대한 범국민적, 초당적, 국제적 합의를 이끌어내기 위해 외교안보통일 분야의 전문가, 핵공학자, 문화예술인(영화 감독과 소설가, 가수, 만화가 등), 청년, 여성, 탈북민, 해외 전문가 및 동포 등이 광범위하게 참여하는 네트워크를 구축
