Welcome to Root Quarterly: Art and Ideas from Philadelphia. We're one part magazine, one part collaborative art project, and one part social experiment. As the founding editor of First Things once said, "If you want to spread an idea, write a book. If you want to build a community, launch a magazine." So in 2019, we launched a magazine. We value free expression, pluralism, good-faith debate, and, above all, curiosity about our world and our place in it. We believe that print isn't dead, and that, in fact, it's a wonderful tool for bringing people together, and our events online and in person help us further engage with each other.
We're a community of curiosity that believes in the power of art and ideas to brings us together to celebrate our community humanity. We feature artist profiles, recommendations for regional destinations and makers, cultural criticism, book reviews, poetry, essays, and---always---beautiful art. Our quarterly, themed issues are an act of collective sense making and hope in complex world. Join us.
