Reach Out and Read Greater Philadelphia

Reading aloud with a caring adult can help young children get through tough times. Whether they are listening to a story about a mouse and a cookie, a llama being put to bed, or a young girl named Ruby who is worried, books can help children realize they aren’t alone, and help them process their feelings. This nurturing practice during the youngest years supports brain development, social and emotional health, and early learning. Physicians and nurse practitioners who care for children know the power of books and reading aloud to children. By talking with parents and caregivers using the evidence-based Reach Out and Read medical model, they enhance pediatric care in routine check-ups and provide families with the tools they need to put their children on the path to school success.
