The world of medicine is long overdue for change, but maybe not in the way you might first assume.
We often hear that to care for our patients, we must first care for ourselves, and with the world waking to the advent of wellness, the term seems ever more elusive.
With external factors playing an undeniable role, we cannot forget the tools we possess as mindful people. These tools will enable us to create a more empowered disposition, not to seek one. Ultimately, through leadership and fostering teamwork and support first within us, and then for others, fulfillment is an inevitable byproduct.
Our goal is of two minds; humanistic and clinical:
1: Humanistic
You can achieve these human factors by attaining a growth mindset. We aim to dismantle the constructs of fear, reframe the role of ego, and pride ourselves as learners, then leaders, whether we are leaders of our departments, units, teams, or patients. We aim to help give everyone a voice within the medical community!
2: Clinical
On the clinical side, experience has shown that of the most draining and devitalizing events is managing what seems like a losing fight; cardiac arrest. We aim to reframe the basic concepts in controlling this most critical event from the lens of optimizing communication and cohesiveness.
By approaching these two overarching themes, we as a community can optimize how we bring chaos to order. From our minds outward, we cultivate leadership, teamwork, and longevity so our patients, and ourselves, can thank us.
The road may be arduous, but with the right tools and the correct line of sight, we can scale it to its endpoint.
