The Royal Bermuda Regiment is a light infantry battalion and the home defence force of Bermuda. On September 1st 1965, it was formed through the Amalgamation of the Bermuda Militia Artillery (BMA) and the Bermuda Volunteer Rifles Corps (BVRC). Both the BMA and Rifle Corps had been in existence since an Act of Parliament, in 1895. On November 24th 1965, the Regiment was ceremoniously presented with its first set of Colours by Her Royal Highness, The Princess Margaret, our late Colonel-in-Chief. HRH also presented a second set of Colours, following the Bermuda Regiment's 25th Anniversary in 1990. On November 13th 2010, our current Colonel-in-Chief Princess Bridgette, now HRH The Duchess of Gloucester, presented the current set of Colours. Throughout its existence, the RBR has trained alongside various units including the U.S.M.C. Expeditionary Forces in North Carolina; the Jamaican Defense Force in Jamaica; the Canadian Land Forces Division in Canada; and occasionally the with the Royal Anglican Regiment in the UK. Personnel have also been sent on overseas deployments or attachments for hurricane relief & joint security tasks efforts, to places including Montserrat, Jamaica, and British Virgin Islands in the 1980's; as well as Sierra Leone, the Cayman Islands, Grenada, Barbados and Turks & Caicos in the early 2000's. The RBR, has been embodied on various occasions throughout its history including responding to civil disturbances in 1968, 1977 and again in 1981. Embodiments also include hurricane relief at home, most notably following Hurricane Emily in 1987; Hurricane Fabian in 2003; and in back-to-back circumstances following hurricanes Fay & Gonzalo in 2014. On September 1st 2015, the Royal Bermuda Regiment was awarded the "Royal" title by HM The Queen, after 50 years of service. In 2020, the RBR Coast Guard Unit was officially formed, after an Act of Parliament. Current Commanding Officer: Lieutenant Colonel (Lt. Col.) D. Simons
