Rudolf Tobias 29 May 1873, Käina, Hiiu County – 29 October 1918, Berlin Rudolf Tobias, born in May 1873 in island Hiiumaa, was without a doubt given a suitable first name. The name, comprising the German word stems for ‘fame’ and ‘wolf’, become quite symbolic in the life of the island boy. Tobias was driven by his life-affirming frame of mind and his passion for greatness. As he was as optimistic and wilful as he was impatient, many of his grand ideas met their natural, inevitable end halfway through when he was captured by something new and more exciting. Even so, the prevalent tune of his life was his belief in a better future. Here at Rudolf, we have drawn a lot of inspiration from the great composer and learned to listen to the voices of our hearts.
