As “Breastfeeding” has not formed a significant portion of medical training of Nurses, Doctors or other Professional Health Providers in the past, mothers are often given such conflicting and confusing advice that they give up as soon as they run into problems and start formula feeding their babies without enough education about the dangers of doing so.
Sometimes the problem might not even be obvious, as a latch can look good but the mother still experiences soreness and pain. This is the reason why the trained eye of a Certified Lactation Consultant is so important.
