Sacred Arts Project

Every known community and society throughout history has participated in creative endeavors set aside for the exclusive purpose of acknowledging the 'holy'. Such pursuits, which include dance and drama, painting and music, contribute to a perennial intercultural tradition of Sacred Arts. While sedentary contemplative practices, often subsumed beneath the term 'meditation', have been the subject of extensive investigation over the past half a century, the Sacred Arts remain little studied. Yet this multifaceted tradition of creative activity can contribute much to education and therapy, facilitating personal insight, and fostering interpersonal engagement. The Sacred Arts Project aims to document the history of this activity as practiced by members of discreet cultures, and promote their integration into contemporary educational and therapeutic practice.
