About SAE - Sarpsborg Avfallsenergi AS

SAE (Sarpsborg Avfallsenergi) is a modern, state-of-the-art energy recovery plant in Sarpsborg, Norway. The plant processes mainly household waste into energy in the form of environmentally friendly industrial steam which is supplied to Borregaard, one of the world's leading bio-refiners. The facility has an installed capacity of 33 MW, with two production lines and gross production of 255 GWh. The feedstock is 80,000 tons of waste per year of household and commercial waste, and the plant has permission to incinerate 8,000 tons of hazardous waste per year. Technically speaking, the waste-to-energy plant is based on a modern gasification technology recently developed by Energos which minimizes carbon dioxide emissions to the atmosphere. Energos is an established player that has to date delivered technology to eight operating plants. The SAE plant employs the third generation of the Energos technology and has been in operation since 2010. The facility is part of the SAREN Infrastructure group
