Safer Waves was founded in 2019 with the aim of supporting merchant seafarers who have experienced sexual assault, sexual harassment, or gender discrimination on board. Our mission is to create a safe space for seafarers to talk about these experiences and receive emotional support.
We are dedicated to providing information and support to seafarers who may find it hard to talk about their experiences and we are working with individuals and organisations around the world to create a global network of support.
We also run a confidential e-mail emotional support service for seafarers worldwide, manned by a team of volunteers who can provide non-judgemental support whether you are currently onboard experiencing issues, or experienced issues months, years or decades previously.
