About Saheed Major Asa Ram Tyagi (MVC) Foundation
Saheed Major Asa Ram Tyagi foundation is named after Major Asa Ram Tyagi. He was born on January 2, 1939, in Fatehpur, Modi Nagar , in Ghaziabad district of Uttar Pradesh, India. He was the son of Chaudhary Saguwa Singh, a man of noble character who instilled in his children the values of honor, bravery, and service to the nation. Major Tyagi grew up with two brothers, Mr. Shyam Sunder Tyagi & Mr. Parshuram Tyagi. Now he has two nephews - Mr. Raj Sunder Ji & Mr. Prem Sunder Tyagi . His family has long history of serving the Nation for thousands of years. On December 17, 1961, Major Asa Ram Tyagi was commissioned into the 3rd Jat Battalion of the famed Jat Regiment, known for its valor and service to the country. Indo-Pak War and the Battle of Dograi: September 21, 1965 India was engaged in a war in 1965 with Pakistan, During this time, Major Tyagi's battalion, the 3 Jat, was tasked with a critical mission to capture the DOGRAI town. On September 21, 1965, the 3 Jat Battalion was ordered to capture the enemy positions in Dograi, a strategically important village in Pakistan. Dograi was heavily fortified and defended by a well-prepared enemy force, including best in the class Patan tanks, recoil-less guns given by USA , and pillboxes . The enemy opened fire, and during the assault, Major Tyagi was hit by Multiple bullets in his right shoulder & on chest. Major Tyagi continued to push forward & Destroyed multiple tanks & pill boxes, rallying his men and directing their fire with precision and authority. The capture of the tanks & Dograi Town was a substantial achievement, tipping the balance in favor of the Indian forces. Major Tyagi's injuries were grave, and he succumbed to his wounds on September 25, 1965.He was just 25 years old at the time of his martyrdom & got married one month earlier. Major Asa Ram Tyagi was posthumously awarded the Maha Vir Chakra, second highest military honors.
