Sails for Science NZ

Sails for Science NZ is a science outreach organization which aims to engage the next generation of critical thinkers in environmental stewardship. We run programs in New Zealand colleges that combine (1) engaging classroom sessions, (2) local environmental sample collection voyages onboard a commercial sailing vessel, and (3) student-run molecular methods of environmental DNA analysis focused on biodiversity and identification of non-indigenous species. These programs empower students with a sense of achievement and emphasize that careers in science can lead to meaningful local impact.
