India’s urban population is growing rapidly, with more than half of the population expected to live in cities by 2050. This expansion will entail the emergence of complex and new health challenges, influenced by multiple factors, especially for people who live in urban low income settings.
With a weak public health system that is unable to reach the urban poor and vulnerable people, and persisting problems related to health infra, human resources, poor quality of care, high out-of-pocket-expenses - urban poor and vulnerable people already face disproportionate burdens.
Additionally, emerging issues in the form of climate change and its impact are known to increase the health risks of the urban poor and vulnerable, both directly through increased exposure to extreme climatic events (heat waves) and disasters (urban floods); and indirectly through its impact on livelihoods, water systems and food systems.
What is Samyak?
Samyak is a public health initiative, currently housed within the Collective Good Foundation (CGF). Our team comprises professionals with expertise in public health, nutrition, education, gender, governance, and implementation at scale; with a track record of collaborations with a wide range of stakeholders, including philanthropists, multilateral agencies, government bodies, civil society organizations, and knowledge partners.
