Dating back nearly 500 years, Franciscan monks were among the first to arrive in what is today known as Bolivia. They laid the foundation for the San Francisco de Asis Cathedral. At this site the city to be known as "Our Lady of Peace" (Nuestra Senora de La Paz) was born.
Found high in the Andes mountains, at 3000 meters above sea level, La Paz is the highest capital in the world today.
